Thomas is 10th Celtic Storm Player to net High School MVP Honors
Kaitlyn Thomas aka "KT" (left) earned 4A State MVP Honors on November 6th from The Deseret News for her outstanding play in leading Orem to its first State Title. Thomas had 4 goals and 5 assists in the State Title run and finished the year with 15 goals. The "red head with red shoes" brings to the table a flair of fantastic footwork, wicked set pieces and refreshing creativity to the game. Thomas turned down out-of-state offers to stay close to home and will sign with Utah Valley in February. Other Storm players to receive the States top high school award include: Courtney Asay, a two-time 4A MVP in 2001 & 2002 with Mountain View. Elizabeth Affleck, the MVP of 5A in 2002. In 2004 it was a Celtic Storm sweep as Katie Larkin (5A), Katy Reineke (4A), and Kelly Isleib (3A) were MVP recipients. In 2005, Jessie Baddley was 4A's choice while Isleib repeated. In 2006, Nicole Taylor took 2A honors. Congratulations KT! |

STATE CHAMPS
Celtic Storm congratulates Orem High on winning the 4A State Championship on Oct 20th. Celtic Storm proudly shares in the celebration as 17 of Orem's players hail from our club. Among the seniors who play with Storm are Ashley Kamoe, Brianne Larson, Jamie Lyons, Kelsey Park, Anne Shallenberger, Kaitlyn Thomas, Aly Tucker and Berkeley Young. Celtic underclassmen playing at Orem include: Tanisia Wilson, Steinia Dort, Hilary Smith, Kaci McNeil, Jenna Bowen, Meggie Plothow, Lauren Chung-Hoon, Rosalie Jones and Heide Robins.
Perfect Ending for Orem Seniors
For five of Orem's seniors, members of Celtic Storm 90 Premier, it was the perfect ending to stellar careers at the school. Since being starters from day one as freshman they re-wrote the history of Orem's soccer program. “We peaked right at the perfect moment" noted Anne Shallenberger in her post game interview. Shallenberger, who scored a world class finish in the opening minutes, will go down as the schools all-time leader in goals. Her partner up top, Jamie Lyons the consistent and relentless worker who ran wild on Highland’s defense will also go down as one of the schools top scorers. The work of the opportunistic Lyons was instrumental in setting up Shallenberger through the years. They were a fantastic tandem which complemented each other. In the back it was Brianne Larson’s tenacious defense that wouldn’t let anything by in the title game. She will go down as one of the states best defenders. In the midfield Kaitlyn Thomas’s deadly set pieces always had Orem in the game over the years. She was also huge in this year’s first round win scoring all four of the team's goals in the win over Mtn. Crest. For Aly Tucker, a shutout in the final was fitting for the instinctive and aggressive keeper. On the one play where it seemed Highland broke through Orem’s defense, Tucker made a statement by coming off her line and blew up the play, crushing any hope for the Rams. |

Getting Defensive; Storm Alumni Shine in Defensive Rolls alumni news
Several Storm players are making a huge impact defensively for their college teams.
At BYU, Hermann Trophy candidate Jessica Harmon leads the back line which has yet to allow a goal in the run of play through nine games. Even with a strong start, BYU’s defense got even better in the third week as freshman Nicole Urry was put in the lineup as a side back. Despite her youth, Urry brings added speed and skills to the Cougars back four.
Idaho State made an important transformation last weekend as freshman Karissa Henage was inserted to the starting line up as a center back where she immediately organized and improved the Bengals back four. After leading the back line which only allowed one goal at the Idaho State Classic, Henage was named to the All-Tournament Team. Although a freshman, Henage has shown just how valuable her tactical intelligence, leadership and tenacity are to her team
At Utah, another freshman has made an impact in the Utes defense. After allowing 9 goals over three prior games, Nicole Cardon got her first start against Oregon. With Cardon as a starter the Utes earned two straight shutouts as the back line helped Lynzee Lee in goal. Cardon also got her first assist on the weekend. |
| |
Nimmer Filling the High School Nets
Storm’s Marissa Nimmer, a freshman at Timpanogos HS is making a huge impact for the Timberwolves. From scoring the schools first goal of the season to getting a game-winner in her second game, Nimmer hasn’t looked back in providing consistent and clutch scoring for her team. Nimmer, a center midfielder with Celtic Storm 93 Premier has thrived as a forward at Timpanogos. She has scored goals in all but one game in helping THS to a 10-3 record and a #9 Ranking in the latest Deseret News Top 20 poll. Her 18 goals rank in the top four among 5A goal scorers. Fellow Storm players Noelle Sanders (90 Premier) and Angelica Dickson (92 Premier) have also contributed with eight and 10 goals respectively for the Timberwolves. more |

Wilkes (left in red) upped her team lead to 14 goals and is now tied for 11th in NCAA Division II in goals per game. Kaitlyn Thomas, Kelsey Kimball, Brianne Larsen, Jamie Lyons, Noelle Sanders and Camille Broderick all pledged to play for the Utah Valley Wolverines in 2008. After Celtic Storm had at least 10 players each of the last three years choose to play out-of-state, all Storm 2008 commitments thus far have decided to stay close to home. Storm Sends 3 Teams to Far West Regionals
Celtic Storm will send a club record three teams to the Far West Regional Championships June 18-24 in Las Vegas. Our U18’s arrived by winning a State Cup Title. Our U17’s and U13’s punched their tickets by winning their State Cup semifinal games as Storm took full advantage of Utah’s only two wild card spots. Storm has sent two teams to Regionals the last four years (2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006) and has sent at least one team to regionals by virtue of the wild card the last three years. Storms first team to go to Regionals as a wild card was the 88’s trip to Denver in 2005. In all Storm has now sent 15 teams to regionals in just over a decade of existence. |

Semi Sweet - 3 Storm teams advance to State Cup Final
Late Dramatics Lift U17's The U17's needed two dramatic late goals to advance to the State Title game with a 2-1 victory. With 15 minutes remaining, defender Kelsey Kimball scored after Noelle Sanders sent a ball across the box, On the play, Tanisia Wilson had played the ball to Sanders giving the double assist to Sanders and Wilson on the equalizer. In the last few minutes it was Alexis Harrisons fantastic cross that found the always oportunistic Jamie Lyons for the game winner. Goalkeeper Aly Tucker then made two spectacular saves tapping the ball over the goal to preserve the win in the final seconds. Storm will contend for the State Title on Saturday at 12:30
U13's in First State Cup Final and going to Regionals
Aime Critchfield scored 10 minutes in and Storm didn't look back in their 3-0 semifinal win Thursday. Henage and Joyner commit another four years together
Karissa Henage and Crosby Joyner have played on the same Storm teams for the last five years. They were also four year teammates at Springville HS. So why not another four years? Both reportedly have accepted fantastic offers and verbally committed to Idaho State the first week of December. Currently on the 89's, Karissa and Crosby were instrumental in taking the 88's from a Div III team as U14's to Premier League Champs as U16's and to one of Utah's most successful teams ever in out-of-state competition as U17’s and U18’s. Henage and Joyner where vital in sustaining Springville Highs program tournaround the last few years leaving as the schools all-time leading scorers (Joyner 34 and Henage 26 goals). Both are versatile enough to have received team MVP honors on both the offensive and defensive sides. They will play for Allison Gibson and join fellow Storm alumni Kilee Quigley (1st Team All-Conference) and Jana Davis as the Bengals look to build upon their 2006 Conference Title. Also, BreAnna Bowser recently committed to BYU-Hawaii. This brings our '07 class to 19 players who have committed to play in college next fall. |

Orem HS soccer has record setting season with Celtic Storm talent. After winning the schools first ever region title a year in 2005, In 2006, Orem High (17-1) boasted the schools first ever #1 Ranking for the majority of the season. Orem also was ranked as high as #5 in the West by the NSCAA HS pole and received votes in the National Rankings. Orem lost just one senior to college soccer (Chelsey Norton) from 2005 and had a roster still loaded with Storm players including an especially strong junior class. Orem's skill level of the entire team and their ability to play the possesion game rarely seen at the HS level made the Golden Tigers one of the top teams in the West. A few key players at Orem who also play with Celtic Storm ' 90 Premier are: Kaitlyn Thomas (center mid), Brianne Larsen (center back), Aly Tucker (GK), Jamie Lyons (forward, Anne Schallenberger have been clutch at forward. |
