Kassidy Christensen (right) continues to make an impact for BYU. Once teams started double and triple teaming BYU's Katie Larkin, someone had to pick up the slack. After BYU lost two straight to Utah and SDSU, BYU finally started Christensen who had been the 2nd most productive player despite only getting 20 to 30 minutes of playing time a game. Christensen has thrived as a starter scoring four goals in the last three games, getting the game-winner in each of those games. The freshman now has 7 goals and 4 gwg's on the year. This week she was named SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week and MWC Offensive Player of the Week

Getting Defensive; Storm Alumni Shine in Defensive Rolls
Several Storm players are making a huge impact defensively for their college teams.
At BYU, Hermann Trophy candidate Jessica Harmon leads the back line which has yet to allow a goal in the run of play through nine games. Even with a strong start, BYU’s defense got even better in the third week as freshman Nicole Urry was put in the lineup as a side back. Despite her youth, Urry brings added speed and skills to the Cougars back four.
Idaho State made an important transformation last weekend as freshman Karissa Henage (left)was inserted to the starting line up as a center back where she immediately organized and improved the Bengals back four. After leading the back line which only allowed one goal at the Idaho State Classic, Henage was named to the All-Tournament Team. Although a freshman, Henage has shown just how valuable her tactical intelligence, leadership and tenacity are to her team
At Utah, another freshman has made an impact in the Utes defense. After allowing 9 goals over three prior games, Nicole Cardon got her first start against Oregon. With Cardon as a starter the Utes earned two straight shutouts as the back line helped Lynzee Lee in goal. Cardon also got her first assist on the weekend. |

No Place Like Home for Bartholomew:
After countless miles on trips, hours on the phone, a continual stream of mail and email, Stacy Bartholomew (right) finally ended her recruiting speculation by committing to hometown BYU last week. Stacy was one of the most sought after recruits not playing in the ODP or US National pool programs. "Basically anyone who saw her play for five minutes wanted her," according to former coach Mikelle Roth. After narrowing the list of offers to Kentucky, New Mexico, Pacific, UNLV and Utah, Bartholomew couldn't resist the late offer from BYU, the hometown school she'd grown up dreaming to play for. A senior at Timpanogos High, Bartholomew will join the Cougars in 2007. |
